A specially activated spherical silica matrix makes it possible to extract DNA fragments from agarose gels or solvents in a very mild manner, without the use of organic solvents. Nucleic acids are bound to the NucleoTrap matrix in the presence of a chaotropic salt. The hydrate shell of the nucleic acids is destroyed by this binding buffer, thus facilitating adsorption to the specially treated NucleoTrap matrix. A washing step is followed by the elution of DNA with water or TE buffer.
The NucleoTrap gel extraction kit is designed to extract fragments from agarose gels or from aqueous solutions in sizes ranging from 20 bp to 20 kb. Each 10 µl of suspension can extract 2.5 µg of DNA.
